48 hours at Tamassine

Tamassine's socio-educational initiative is the fruit of a vision built around a training-farm project located on the outskirts of Tivaouane since 2008.

The match between training, jobs and the integration of young people is a pressing question in Senegal in general, and in the Tivaouane area in particular. While unemployment is evident among graduates of the formal public education system, the situation is even more marked for graduates of the daara training system, or religious schools.

Indeed, Tivaouane, despite its openness to modernity, remains the sanctuary of classical Islamic teaching, home to the popular university of Seydil Hadji Malick SY. In this context, Tamassine stands as a model built on the triptych at the heart of Maodo's philosophy: jang, julli, bay — training, worship and production — to ensure a successful transition by building professional qualification into the training curriculum.

Drawing on its experience in sustainable agriculture and in training the ndongo daara, the boarders of the training farm, Tamassine is beginning to open up to its surroundings. It is in this spirit that the 48h event has been held for more than three years, in a spiritual, intellectual and healthy atmosphere.
